The Wine and Kite House
In the heart of Torreilles, this former mansion perfectly combines the charm of the past with contemporary comforts.
Our crush for the house
Looking for a house in the Leucate region, Europe’s kitesurfing temple, we fell under the spell of this 17th-century mansion.
To develop our ‘Wine and Kite’ concept, combining wellbeing and water sports, we needed a large house that could easily accommodate 3 or 4 families, with an outdoor area sheltered from the wind and enough space to offer wellbeing services (massages, etc…). The search wasn’t easy, but we found this nugget in the centre of Torreilles, a village that immediately won us over with its relaxed atmosphere and location, just a few kilometres from the beach and the best kitesurfing spots.
The house comprises a 300 square metre mansion, a 150 square metre former stable and a 150 square metre former grape-pickers’ cottage. Over the centuries, it has been renovated by successive owners, and we have undertaken extensive work to consolidate the floors and create a ground-floor terrace and roof terrace. The main 120 square metre terrace is enclosed on all 4 sides, protecting it from the wind.
Today, the Wine and Kite house offers all the modern comforts: air conditioning in most areas, hammam, jacuzzi, indoor swimming pool, wifi, and more. However, we wanted to preserve what makes it so charming, and its thousands of defects that are signs of time. Those who appreciate this charm will immediately feel at home, while those who prefer large modern hotels will prefer to look for something else…
